Remember to Bring Re-Usable Bags When you Shop!

bring bags - imageThe County of Cheboygan and the City of Cheboygan are urging everyone to switch from single-use plastic grocery bags to re-usable bags.  At Earth Week Plus we have been supporting this idea for a long time with our own make your own bags program.

Last year due to the year-long efforts of David and Karen Martin, both the City Council of Cheboygan and the Cheboygan County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution encouraging businesses and citizens to reduce plastic shopping bags. This approach is similar to St. Augustine, Florida’s all-voluntary approach. These two local resolutions make CHEBOYGAN FIRST IN MICHIGAN TO REDUCE PLASTIC SHOPPING BAGS!

The BRING IT CHEBOYGAN campaign continued with the beautiful paid ad in March published in the Cheboygan Shopper’s Fair. At the Expo, visit the BRING IT CHEBOYGAN table for a brochure full of facts, photos, and the chance to have an old (or new) tee shirt sewn into a handy tee-tote (bring your own shirt). Plastic Man will be on hand to answer any questions.

Family Fare has put signs out reminding shoppers to remember their reusable bags. They are donating 7,000 reusable Spartan bags to shoppers who prefer to use reusable bags, which some say last 10 years!!

So come on Cheboygan, let’s clean up our town, protect the environment, and save the animals who suffer from these bags at all stages of bag-life. Remember BRING IT CHEBOYGAN!!
