The EarthWeekPlus Expo at Cheboygan High School on April 13 proved an enormous success once again. More than 400 people attended to enjoy fifteen entertaining and educational programs, nearly two dozen hallway exhibits and childrens’ activities by local businesses and organizations, and the Wildlife Room of the Straits Area Audubon Society. The highlight presentation, Wings of Wonder, featured a live great horned owl, American kestrel, saw-whet owl, and turkey vulture who initiated courtship with the speaker. Attendees hailed from Traverse City, Rogers City, Dearborn Heights, Gaylord, Lansing, Atlanta, Wolverine, and closer cities, all eager to learn about the nature surrounding us.
A huge thank you goes to each session presenter, those who shared their displays, and everyone who attended. Special kudos go to the following community volunteers, who worked for eight months to make this event the best celebration ever – probably in the world! – of the precious planet in our care.
Judi Chimner, overall organizer and Expo manager
Bobie Crongeyer, Adventures manager
Lisa Readmond, treasurer and sponsorship organizer
Sheree Lincoln, website and brochure design
Sherry Nelson, publicity manager
Susan Page, Expo display table manager
